Greentech 2016 - Amsterdam

This years' Greentech fair, hosted in Amsterdam, definitely ran under the topic of vertical farming or more generally indoor farming. Thereby solution provider from all over Europe, as well as from the USA/Canada, China & Japan came to present their recent trends and developments. Large focus thereby lied on steadily increasing the information generation, processing and analysis within the space of growing crops. This trend has definitely become much more trendy, as the IoT (Internet of Things) thought will find further importance to the farming community.

At the vertical farming pavilion, state-of-the-art technology can be experienced, touched and one of the creators of this trend, Dr. Dickson Despommier, was there to chat. Awesome chance for Vertico to get in touch with those enthusiastic people and increase our network, as we are phasing the finishing phase for our prototype. Systems for indoor farming are steadily increasing in efficiency and economics.

As we want to keep you updated about our recent developments, we use this blog for inspiring others, keep you updated about how vertical farming progresses and how we want to adapt our solution.

Vertico currently develops a prototype to test our modular approach and IT back-end, to generate data about growing cycles, the impact of artificial lighting and efficient resource management. The scope should be to be able to manage the whole value chain of a crop's life. Our partners from the University let us use one of the best testing facilities in the horticultural space at the R&D center in Weihenstephan, near Munich.

To better integrate into the community, we involve ourselves at the Association of Vertical Farming (AVF), the world's largest association of that kind. At this year's Greentech fair in Amsterdam, the AVF will be present their own pavilion, focusing on growers and tech developers in vertical farming. We will also participate at the AVF Summit, getting in touch with the community. See you at the pavilion!

Our team is settled in middle-europe in the southern part of Germany (Munich), all studying a discipline suitable to fit in the vertical farming world. Field of studies range from biology, IT, electronics to architecture and business admin. With university ressources in one of the most innovative research facilities in the world at Weihenstephan, from Munich Technical University, we combine high-technology R&D with real-life business cases.
